During the many years of serving clients I have relied on these sound biblical financial principles found in God’s Word to provide counsel to the individuals who have been helped.
Biblical Financial Principles:
1. God is the source of everything.
- "And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.
- “And God will graciously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and have plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:8.
- “Those who love me inherit wealth, for I fill their treasuries.” Proverbs 8:21.
2. Seek counsel when making financial decisions.
- “Plans go wrong for lack of advise; many counselors bring success.” Proverbs 15:22.
- “Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. And let those who understand receive guidance.” Proverbs 1:5.
- “Commit your work to the Lord, and then your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3.
3. Keep accurate records and make a financial plan including a budget.
- “Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds.” Proverbs 27:23.
- “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates and then checking to see if there is enough money to pay the bills? Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of funds. And then how everyone would laugh at you! They would say, There’s the person who started that building and ran out of money before it was finished!” Luke 14:28-30.
- “The Lord hates cheating, but he delights in honesty.” Proverbs 11:1.
4. Save and set aside something for a rainy day.
- “The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.” Proverbs 21:20.
- “A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” Proverbs 22:3.
5. Keep out of unnecessary debt.
- “Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.” Proverbs 22:7.
- “It is poor judgment to co-sign a friend’s note, to become responsible for a neighbor’s debts.” Proverbs 17:18.
6. Share your wealth with others.
- “Divide your gifts among many, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead.” Ecclesiastes 11:2.
- “For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil. And some people , craving money, have wondered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10.
- “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything your land produces. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with the finest wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10.
- “Don’t weary yourself trying to get rich. Why waste your time? For riches can disappear as though they had the wings of a bird!” Proverbs 23:4-5.
